Dr. Amanda Rights graduated from Appalachian State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Pre-Professional Biology and a minor in Chemistry in 2010. Following her undergraduate studies, Dr. Rights earned her Doctor of Optometry degree from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University in 2015. After graduation, she returned to the Blue Ridge Mountains as quickly as she could and worked in Asheville before coming back up the mountain to Boone.
She received her clinical training at the Charlotte VA Medical Center, Doctor's Vision Center in Wilmington, Eye Care Associates in Raleigh, and The Eye Institute in Philadelphia with a focus on Low Vision and Ocular Disease management.
Dr. Rights provides comprehensive vision and ocular health examinations, post-operative care, and diagnosis and treatment of ocular diseases and injuries. Her specialties include ocular surface disorders (e.g., dry eye syndrome), ocular nutrition, and specialty contact lens fittings.
Dr. Rights is active in her profession and the community. She is a member of the American Optometric Association,the NorthCarolina Optometric Society,the Ocular NutritionSociety,and the Tear Film and Ocular Surface Society. She serves as Secretary of the Mountain District Optometric Society.
Dr. Rights is an avid outdoor enthusiast and enjoys running, hiking, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. In her free time, she enjoys gardening, reading, and traveling with her husband.
